September 2017 news from Joy Leggo, CEO
Spring is in the air and how nice it is after these last couple of cold weeks!
I understand that “gastro” is rampant at the moment in other aged facilities and in the broader community. Can we please remain vigilant across all areas of MACS with hand hygiene? I strongly encourage you not to visit if you are unwell as we have escaped the winter months with no outbreaks and I would like this to continue please.
For those of you who live locally and visit our residential facilities you will probably have noted that the works on De Stefano Drive are now progressing at a rapid rate. We will all be so pleased when we can open this drive and direct all visitors and volunteers to park in this area. We are also currently looking at all internal and external signage as well as traffic control safety in preparation for the opening of De Stefano Drive.
It gives me great pleasure to introduce Solomon (Shuyang) Li as a new Director to MACS who is taking up the recently vacated position of Treasurer of the Board, formerly held by John Macarol. Solomon is a qualified chartered professional accountant and lawyer with extensive professional experience in corporate finance and advisory. Please join me in making Solomon feel welcome.
September will be extra busy for our home services team as they are due to have their quality audit on Wednesday 27 September. MACS home care consumers are very welcome to speak to the agency team if they wish and will soon be receiving information on the quality audit in the mail.
Bella Chara has regular spot visits by Community Visitors and I am always pleased to read that they think Bella Chara is beautifully maintained and a very supportive and caring environment for the residents to live.
Residentially, we recently introduced a new menu and Rob our hotel services manager is keen to receive any feedback. Over the past couple of months I have observed Rob and his staff undertaking “taste testings” with different residents on new menu items and it has been delightful receiving their feedback. They are certainly not backward in coming forward with their comments, both good and bad! Your feedback can be sent to RobF@macs.org.au
September and October are busy months for MACS as we finalise acquittals for funding streams, complete financial audits and prepare for our annual general meeting (AGM) in late October. It is also a time when directors review all the board committees in line with governance best practice recommendations.
Happy Father’s Day to all fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, great-grandfathers and great-great grandfathers on Sunday 3 September.
With warm regards,
