October news from CEO Joy Leggo
It has been lovely to see the recent activity in the piazza with everyone making the most of the spring sunshine. On a single day I saw children playing in the piazza having a great game with a ball; residents making their way to the boutique in deep conversation; someone chatting to Sylvana in the hairdressing salon; and a family making their way to Stella’s café to enjoy some lunch. It is wonderful to finally realise the vision we always had for this space – people being engaged, going about their daily activities and enjoying themselves. I can already picture what this space will look like when De Stefano Drive opens. You may have noticed that all the concreting has now been completed and only the electrical work, bollards, fencing and line marking now need to be undertaken. Directors have approved the purchase of a generator for our site to future proof our residential buildings from the potential of unstable electricity supply. De Stefano Drive will be finalised when this large unit has been positioned and installed during October.
On Tuesday 19 September I was delighted to welcome Inventi Ensemble from Melbourne Recital Centre to perform two concerts in the chapel. It was the largest contingent of musicians (16 in total) to have ever come to MACS, filling the chapel with glorious music. The ensemble performed to packed audiences of residents, home care consumers, tenants, volunteers and staff. As one Italian resident said to me “I was taken back to the Arena di Verona and the wonderful opera concerts I went to as a young girl.” We are indeed fortunate to have this partnership with Melbourne Recital Centre to be able to bring our community such high calibre musical events.
You are warmly invited to join us at MACS’ Annual General Meeting and Presentations on Tuesday 31 October at 2.30 pm in the chapel.
This is a great opportunity to hear about MACS’ highlights for 2016/17 financial year, meet the directors and celebrate and acknowledge the many and varied achievements of directors, staff and volunteers. To help us with catering and seating, please let us know before 18 October if you are attending by either phoning (03) 5279 6800 during office hours or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
With best wishes,
