Merger between MACS and Diversitat
Merger between MACS and Diversitat – A message from the President of Geelong Ethnic communities Council and the Chair of MACS.
We trust you are all staying safe and healthy and enjoying the new optimism in the air since the easing of Victoria’s COVID restrictions
This week both Diversitat affiliated communities and the MACS’ Board have each independently met in relation to the proposed merger.
We are very pleased to advise that both organisations have unanimously voted in favour and confirmed their commitment to proceed with the merger. With the decision now officially ratified, we can now commence the legal process to establish the new organisation.
We expect the new merged organisation will become effective around mid 2021. For the next few months it is business as usual for both organisations.
The newly formed entity will be legally known as Multicultural Community Services Geelong Inc.
A trading name will be decided at a later date through a consultative process.
As a matter of priority the Directors of the new entity (all existing Directors of both organisations) will be working on the appointment of an Independent Chair and the Chief Executive Officer.
As the President and Chair of both organisations, we are delighted to have reached this decision. We restate that we believe there are significant benefits in working together as two of the Geelong region’s largest and respected serving multicultural organisations – Geelong Ethnic Communities Council Inc (trading as Diversitat) and MACS.
Our aim is to maintain and expand services and provide a stronger voice for multicultural communities in Greater Geelong, combining 70 years of knowledge and experience. Our wish for the new entity is to provide a holisitic approach to multicultural services delivering services to our communities using a community focussed lens.
We are committed to keeping you informed along the way with regular updates as we continue on this exciting journey together.
Finally, we want to thank every member of the Diversitat and MACS staff, volunteers and communities for your overwhelming support during this merger process.
Linda Sydor-Petkovic – President, Geelong Ethnic Communities Council Inc.
Spiro Fatouros – Chair, Multicultural Aged Care Services Geelong Inc
