COVID-19 update from CEO, Joy Leggo 10 December 2020

Dear friends,

It certainly has been wonderful to welcome families and friends back into the facility and to see the happy smiles on our residents’ faces. It is pleasing to note that Victoria still remains COVID free at this time and we hope that this situation will continue – we are monitoring this closely on an ongoing basis.

Just a reminder that we are following the Government’s ‘tiered’ system which is:

Tier 1   No community transmissions – few restrictions apart from screening and wearing of masks.

Tier 2   Visiting restrictions re-introduced (bookings required with limited internal visits) when we have been identified as being in a defined hotspot.  Definition of a defined hotspot – rolling 3-day average of 3 locally acquired cases per day.  This equates to 9 cases over 3 days.

Tier 3   Significant community transmissions – we would revert back to pod and exceptional visits only.

We should all be mindful that things can change rapidly and although we are currently in Tier 1, we will act swiftly in moving from Tier to Tier if the data indicates the need to.

Please be mindful of the number of people in a public open space within your House.  Collectively we all need to take responsibility for ensuring social distancing guidelines are maintained (1.5m).

A further reminder that visits are permitted between 9.30 am and 12 noon and 1.00 pm & 5.00 pm seven days a week, with no restriction on the number of visitors (we would prefer if it was only 2 at a time if possible), times you visit or length of visit.  Requests for visits outside of these hours must be made by contacting the Registered Nurse in Charge by phone so that you can be admitted into the facility.  The Government strongly recommends visitors to aged care facilities have evidence of flu vaccine so we would respectfully ask that you continue providing this when required. The Pod will remain operational for those people who have not had their flu vaccination and bookings must be made through Heather on 52796800.

You are also allowed to take Residents out for a drive or to visit family & friends.  Details will be taken as you leave the facility for the purpose of contact tracing if required.  We request that you adhere to the roadmap issued by the Victorian Government for external social visits.

Please ring reception on 5279 6800 to advise if you will be taking your loved one out on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or Boxing Day. It is important to have this information so that we can ensure that your family member is ready for you to pick up for their outing.

Further communications:

We will now be moving to a monthly communication, as we continue on the current path of zero cases, which means that the next COVID communication from me will be on Thursday 28 January. Should anything change, COVID communications will resume immediately.

I trust that however you will be celebrating your festive season it will be filled with lots of laughter, good friends, family and wonderful food.

Thank you for supporting the work we do, acknowledging the way we care and how we go about our work, it means a lot to us to have your confidence, trust and support.

Take care everyone and please continue to wash those hands x 2, keep on social distancing and make sure you wear your mask!!

 Kind regards,

Joy Leggo
