COVID-19 update from CEO – 10 November 2020

Dear friends,

I am pleased to let you know that there have been no active cases of COVID-19 in any aged care facility in Victoria since 5 November. That alongside the ongoing zero cases in the general community, gives us reason to be hopeful that we are heading in the right direction.

The Premier’s announcement on Sunday that the 25 km travel restriction has been removed, means we will now be welcoming back into the facility our Melbourne families. I know how happy that will make everyone. As we do that, we have made a decision to continue our visiting regime as it is, and will review again following The Premier’s next announcement on Sunday 22 November. We wish to remain cautious during this time and continue to monitor numbers with this increase of movement.

Whilst the DHHS advice indicates that one family can visit an aged care facility for up to 2 hours once a day, we would like to keep our internal visits to one person, for one hour per day, to ensure as many of our Residents and families get the opportunity to visit whilst keeping appropriate social distancing. These internal visits can be complimented with an outdoor visit of up to 3 visitors.

I would just like to take a moment and thank Heather De Bakker for the work she does in working with you all in arranging visits and accommodating your requests. It is not an easy task, now that we have three booking systems in place.

I have also decided that these communications will now move to fortnightly, with the next one being on Thursday 26 November. This will follow The Premier’s next announcement on the 22nd and give us an opportunity to plan any further changes. Heather will be taking bookings under the current arrangements up to Sunday 29 November.

Just a reminder – Internal Visits are for one hour – one visitor only allowed in Resident’s room
External Visits are 30 mins – 3 visitors at one time
Pod Visits are 30 mins – 2 visitors at one time
There is no longer a requirement to wear a face shield just a mask during your visit.

Exceptional visits will continue as required but must be approved by the Director of Care or Registered Nurse in Charge. There is no change to our process of quarantining of goods at this time.

Our attention is now turning to our Christmas celebrations. We understand how important these functions are to everyone and so we have decided that each Resident can host one party inside their House with up to 3 family members. Our Wellbeing Team are busy putting the final plans together and will be in contact with the first point of contact with details.

I have still had no confirmation from DHHS about the ongoing requirement to see evidence of visitors having had their flu vaccination. As soon as I know, I will let you all know.
.
Take care everyone and please continue to wash those hands x 2, keep on social distancing and make sure you wear your mask!!

Kind regards,

Joy Leggo
