Dear friends

Current cases in Greater Geelong & Surfcoast as at 19/11 -315,  Vaccination rates for the COGG – 1st  and 2nd vaccinations over 95%.

We have received notification that we are able to further open up the facility to visitors with some safeguards still in place as listed below.

Our Care Team under the guidance of Luba have worked so hard to keep everyone safe & connected over the past 18 months noting that COVID is likely to be with us for some time yet. In our Residential facility our decision to strictly co-hort remains an important line of defence should we have a positive case at MACS.  I acknowledge the frustration of families not having the freedom of visiting when convenient, but then I weigh up the responsibility of keeping our Residents, staff and volunteers as safe as we can.

MACS has a responsibility to follow directions from the Government and observe what our aged care colleagues are doing.  We have appreciated the support that many of you have shown us during this time and have come up with the following strategy:

  • We will continue to co-hort until Monday 6 December, but increase the Houses that can visit on any given day including the opportunity for all Houses to have a visit on a designated day on a weekend. We will monitor local case numbers at that time and hopefully open up further.
  • RAT testing – For the time being, we continue to offer Rapid Antigen Tests to all visitors regardless of vaccination status on days that we are able to staff the testing shed in the visitors’ car park. IF WE HAVE NO EVIDENCE OF VACCINATION – YOU MUST HAVE A RAT TEST PRIOR TO ENTRY.
  • Given the anticipated increase in people visiting and to simplify the entry process, visitors must show gate staff evidence of their vaccination status before entering.
  • Visits must still remain in the Residents Room or in outdoor spaces.  We will increase the availability of outdoor seating.
  • Visiting hours will remain the same: 9.30am-11.30am and 1.00pm–4.30pm
  • Exceptional visits will align with the House visiting dates except for settling in and end of life visits which will be arranged with Senior Nursing Staff.
  • Visitors and staff must wear a mask at all times within the premises.

Commencing Saturday 20th  November the following visiting regime will be place.
