Dear friends

Current cases in Greater Geelong & Surfcoast as at 14/01-3,598

Mary Costa House

Some good news for you all today. Whilst we still have our five residents in the “red zone” in Mary Costa House, the remainder of Mary Costa House residents are now out of isolation on the advice from the Barwon Health Public Health Unit. As a safety measure, internal visitors are still not allowed into Mary Costa House with the red zone still in place.

However, we appreciate how stressful being isolated has been for our residents and over the weekend, we would like to facilitate the following avenues for reconnection. We will be allowing Mary Costa House families to visit in the Mary Costa garden as follows:

Saturday         9am-12noon    1pm – 4pm

Sunday            9am-12noon    1pm – 4pm

Entry will be via the back entrance to Mary Costa House, which is accessible through the staff car park (with plenty of parking available). A staff member will be on duty at the gate to assist with external visits in Mary Costa House garden. Visitors will need to undertake a RAT test, show vaccination status and wear masks and shields. There is no booking required for this, however only two visitors per resident will be permitted at a time with four tables around the garden (12 at a time) – visits should be kept to half an hour to allow everyone an opportunity to visit.

We will email you again on Monday with an update regarding our five positive residents and ongoing visiting arrangements.

Annie O’Malley, Gerda’s & Borrela House

For the remainder of the facility a decision has been made to allow family members to visit residents in their rooms. We will be limiting this and have a daily schedule so that we minimize the numbers of people going through the facility at any one time. Only 2 visitors per resident at any one time will be permitted given the high level of cases in the community. The schedule over the weekend will be as follows:

Saturday 15 January  9am-12noon Gerda’s House & Borrela House

                                    1pm-4pm Annie O’Malley House

Sunday 16 January    9am-12noon Annie O’Malley House

                                    1pm-4pm Gerda’s House & Borrela House

Monday 17 January    9am-12noon Gerda’s House & Borrela House

                                    1pm-4pm Annie O’Malley House

Please note there are new regulations for visiting aged care facilities:

All visitors MUST undertake and return a negative RAT test prior to being allowed entry.

All visitors MUST provide vaccination status prior to entry. Any visitors who are unvaccinated can visit in the pod with a booking (please call during office hours to arrange this on 5279 6800).

Masks and shields are to be worn at all times in the facility – shields will be provided for re-use.

No bookings are required for visits, however, we ask that you are patient during the entry process as it takes some time to undertake required checks.

We will send a communication on Monday to you with further details and visiting arrangements.

Kind Regards
