2019 Annual Giving

ANNUAL GIVING 2019

This year MACS is proud to be celebrating 25 years of service to our community, and what a long way we have come in those years! MACS has grown from a simple hostel structure to a large, modern, multi-purpose facility serving more than 300 residents and home care consumers. So much has been achieved thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our extended community.

Thank you to everyone who so generously supported our 2018 Annual Giving Appeal. A total of $10,200 was raised. Whilst we didn’t reach our target of $20,000 to seed fund a 12 month trial to implement a ‘Dance Moves’ program, we are very pleased to let you know that since July 2018 these funds have enabled us to conduct two Dance Moves sessions per week in Gerda’s House, our dementia specific unit. Daniela, our Mindful Moves instructor reports that these sessions involve working closely (sometimes one-on-one) with residents using music from the past to stimulate and engage. Sessions usually begin with a seated warm-up incorporating gentle exercise and swaying from side-to-side with lots of smiling and eye contact made to engage our residents. Dani said “It has been very rewarding witnessing residents become more interactive, singing along to their favourite tunes and expressing themselves freely through dance. Feedback has been extremely positive from both staff and family members – my wife has always loved to dance and is really enjoying your sessions.”

With your support, our 2019 Annual Giving Appeal will focus on raising $15,000 for a carefully designed, fully integrated sound system (and cameras) for our outdoor piazza. The proposed sound system would include a large number of small speakers to provide daily ambient music from any device such as smart phones, media players and CDs, throughout the entire piazza area with an easy system control via an iPad. Not only would this create a wonderful enhancement to the piazza with the ability to have presentations for events from anywhere, it will enable those residents unable to attend an event their own private viewing and/or listening from their bedroom as well as the ability to listen to daily background music in their room if they wish.

Will you please give generously to help MACS’ residents and home care consumers keep active, engaged and enjoying life? Once again, we give our sincere thanks to our 2018 benefactors and our entire MACS community for their ongoing support.
